Also, the record companies are afraid to take a chance on something that’s different. So they use the same, bland, formulas to produce and sell material to the target audiences with the most extra money, usually the coveted 12-25. These people usually have the least developed tastes and as long as it has a good beat, you can dance to it and the lyrics aren’t too deep, its good to hee-haw to. The big labels don’t give a fuck about art, they just want money and use glitz and glam to sell it.

Every music genre has this happen to a certain extent. The agent wants the artist to project a certain image of themselves to “sell”, and so they do.. sometimes including music written from some “shmuck”.
But check your facts before you do.

However, these record companies don’t want them writing their own music because they want to basically control the artists careers so most artists aren’t allowed to wrtie their own stuff. I saw these guys in Amory, Ms about 2 years ago it was a cold night at a local festival only 200 people or so were in the crowd but these guys put on an hour and half show as if they were performing for a crowd 10 times that size. I knew then these guys were going to be big. Great music and down to earth guys.
